Office 365 group expiration policies are a feature in Azure Active Directory that allows administrators to set an expiration time frame for any Office 365 group. This feature has been available in public preview and is now generally available for all Azure Active Directory Premium customers.
Office 365 group expiration policies allow administrators to set an expiration time frame for any Office 365 group. Once that time frame is set, owners of the group get notification emails reminding them to renew the group if it is still needed, prior to expiration. Groups not renewed are automatically deleted, and can be restored within 30 days.
Office 365 groups expiration can be configured from the Azure Active Directory portal, or via Azure Active Directory PowerShell. By default, this feature is not enabled. An Azure AD Premium license is required for every user who is a member of an Office 365 group configured for expiration.
