HPAT Ireland is an important part of the process for applying to study medicine and occupational therapy in Ireland.
HPAT is a 2.5-hour online multiple-choice assessment independently developed by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). HPAT is administered as a remote computer-based test by ProctorU. Candidates can sit HPAT from any suitable location that meets the technical requirements of the test.
HPAT–Ireland is available to any person who is applying to study a course for which HPAT–Ireland is a prerequisite, and who is able to meet the academic entry requirements set by the universities. Eligible test-takers must either be in their final year of school or have completed their school leaving certificate.
International/non-EU students are exempt from taking HPAT–Ireland. You have to contact the universities to which you intend to apply directly or check their websites for information.
Understanding HPAT–Ireland Scores
The maximum score a candidate can achieve is 300.
You will receive a score for each section expressed on a scale of 0 to 100. You will also receive an overall score and an overall percentile ranking to give you an indication of how well you performed against other HPAT Ireland test takers sitting in the same year as you. The overall score is a weighted aggregate of the three section scores and calculated to several decimal places and then rounded. The Overall Score is calculated before the rounding of section scores.
This means it is not possible for test takers to replicate the scoring process.
The overall HPAT – Ireland score is calculated using the following formula:
Overall Score = [(2 × Section 1 + 2 × Section 2 + 1 × Section 3) ÷ 5] × 3
